Origin:
With a scene of devastation everywhere in a little town of northern China in 1937, a foreign priest was walking back and forth on the street and thinking about how to contribute himself to the victims of the war. There was a female dead body lying along the street. Suddenly, he heard a baby crying and rushed to search for the location. He found a severely wounded baby carried on his dead mother's back. Without hesitation, he sent the baby to the hospital right away and took him home for further care. Since then, saving the patients and keeping the orphans away from the hunger and homelessness had become his first target and his house was served as an orphanage. That's how the Christian Children's Fund started.

Many American Christians were deeply affected by his devotion. Therefore, they established the China's Children Fund in Richmond, Virginia USA to help thousands homeless Chinese orphans during the Sino-Japanese War in 1938. Meanwhile, they set up the first orphanage in Canton, China and 42 nursery schools were running around China in succession.

We later changed our name into Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (abbreviated as TFCF). In August 1950, TFCF set up its first family-style orphanage, Kwang-Yin Orphanage in Taiwan, for sheltering those needy children whose families were stricken by accidents. This has opened the first page of TFCF’s history in Taiwan.

In 1964, due to the limitation of the quantity of the replacement and the needs of the society, we found that the offering of the sheltering was not the best way for those needy children since there is no place like home. Therefore, we started to set up the branch offices to provide financial assistance to needy children who could still stay with their families. In 1985, we became self-affiliated because the economy in Taiwan was booming fast at that time. We changed our name again to Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (abbreviated as TFCF)

Vision:

TFCF is a non-governmental organization that dedicates itself to award needy children and their families with welfare and benefits.
From the financial support through foreign donors in the very early beginning, we are now a self-independent organization whose mission and vision still remains on the consideration of needy children's benefits. We are helping children in dire need in Taiwan and 34 countries all through the contribution and donation from habitants in Taiwan.

We Apply
With our professional social work experience, we prevent children away from being abused, and even provide the financial assistance to the needy children and families.

We Expect
That every child can be taken good care of, be kept away from danger, grow up in a healthy surroundings, receive proper education and develop a happy life through our assistance.

We Insist
To assist our supported needy children with a timely assistance, heartfelt concerns, Christ's love and professional social works.

We hope to be a good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-36) to do the right thing regardless of the religion or status. Where there is a child in need, there is TFCF.
