With the crack down of family function in our society within recent years, family ties are not as tight and close as before. Children and youth tend to lose their ground when dealing with stress or anxiety. This might prevent children from carrying on their schooling and learning at school. Therefore, the government entrusted TFCF to start school dropout follow-up and counseling service in 1996. In this program, we provide counseling to dropouts, help them for mingling with peers after returning to schools or help them get a job. In 2007, there were 499 dropout cases and 102 of them were closed after counseling, 235 of them returned to schools and the rest of them were referred to other institutions or started to work without finishing their schooling. Our social workers paid 1,008 home visits and provided 437 phone-counseling respectively. 201 of the dropouts were absent from both schools and homes; hence, the social workers could not reach them for the whole year

?For resolving the complicated problems that school dropout cases encountered, our Branch Offices provided 55 group counseling activities for 381 dropouts and their parents in 2007. There were also 2 parenting education workshops and activities for 42 parents.

Middle School ~ Shiang Yang and Shiu Jih Center

From October 2000, Yilan County Education Bureau started to entrust our Yilan Branch Office to start running a “Middle School of Yilan County ~ Shiang Yang Center” for helping dropouts return to school and resume their normal life as soon as possible. In this program, we designed a different level of curriculums to meet their needs and stimulate their motivations on learning. We expected to reduce the rate of dropouts, and encourage their return to school for continuing their education.

In July 2006, Changhua County Education Bureau entrusted our Changhua Branch Office to run a “Middle School of Changhua County ~ Shiu Jih Center” for creating another learning environment for those students or dropouts who couldn’t adapt themselves to the general education system. In this program, we utilize the resource from the community to bridge schools and dropouts for returning to school soon.
