TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Altogether 34 children were abused and killed in 2007, according to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families.
Of them 28 were preschoolers, a TFCF spokesman said yesterday.
"Preschoolers, aged six or younger, were most frequently abused children, and the abuse was very hard to come to light," said Wang Ming-jen.
The reason is that the younger children stayed at home the whole day.
More than 10,000 abuse-of-child cases have been reported so far this year. "As a matter of fact," Wang said, "one child died because of abuse or was killed by a parent who committed suicide every eight days."
